Ostvik Vikings are an open and welcoming group of Viking Age enthusiasts from the Hampton Roads region, Virginia.  Specifically, we portray inhabitants of the fictional village, Ostvik, located a few miles from Birka, Sweden.

Who were the Vikings? The word ‘Viking’ refers to an activity or occupation of Scandinavians during the 8th-11th Centuries [793-1066 CE]. Around 800 came the aggressive Viking expeditions and the expansion, which are so characteristic of Viking times. These expeditions took off in Western Europe. Over the following 300 years, Scandinavian Vikings formed a large part of English history – as plunderers, merchants, mercenaries, conquerors, settlers and kings.

Our goal here at Ostvik is to research and portray the everyday work of a typical Scandinavian village. Within the village, you will find traders showcasing their wares, fiber artists, leather workers, and smiths plying their trade. Journey over to the source of smoke and delicious food to find the cooks, preparing harvested and hunted foods for consumption.
